Hybrid Photo + Video Coverage?

You may have heard the term 'hybrid wedding coverage' before but what is it? Only the best thing to book for your wedding! Hybrid coverage means hiring a wedding photographer who can do both photo and video coverage at the same time. But how does it work?

When I got married I encountered a dilemma that a huge amount of couples face when planning their wedding- do we have both photo and video coverage?

As much as I wanted to hire a videographer, our budget couldn’t stretch that far so we had to prioritise the photography. I wish we had been able to get even just a short film of clips from throughout the day to look back on. So I decided that I wanted to offer that choice to my couples.

So now my Platinum packages includes all your photos, as well as a highlight film, made up of short video clips I take throughout the day and edited to music. It’s a fantastic way of getting both photo and video coverage, without having to pay twice as much money for twice as many people. A lot of couple’s don’t ever watch their hour long video more than once too, so having a 3-5 minute film of highlights throughout the day is easy-watching as well as being perfect for sharing with your loved ones and on social media if you desire.

 Hybrid Wedding Coverage FAQs

  • Hybrid wedding coverage is the perfect blend of photo and video in one package. Great photos are paramount, but moving video tells the story of your day in such an emotive way, so why should you have to choose one or the other when you can have both!

  • My Platinum package includes hybrid coverage. You will receive 10 hour full day coverage, with a minimum of 700 photos and a 3-5 minute highlight film, made up of video clips throughout the day and edited to music. I include a second photographer as standard within the package at no extra cost.

  • With modern cameras it’s actually surprisingly easy (with practice and experience of course!) I carry two cameras on me at all times, so I can easily change between lenses. My cameras change quickly from photo to video mode with just the flick of a switch, so I am able to take both photo and video clips in the same moment.

  • This is a common concern most people have about hybrid coverage and it’s something I’ve taken time over perfecting to ensure this does not happen. Throughout the day I can easily switch quickly between photo and video settings, but for key moments like the first kiss I actually use two cameras at once to ensure nothing is missed in either photo or video. On top of this I also have my second shooter who will be capturing different angles at the same time, therefore no moments will be missed!

  • The short answer is no, but let’s elaborate! I will be filming a highlight video, which comprises of various short video clips taken throughout the day. These will then be edited together to music to create a 3-5 minute film. Audio from the day such as vows, speeches, etc. are not something I currently include, mainly because the video is too short to include this in. If capturing the audio of the ceremony and speeches is important to you then I do recommend hiring a separate videography team who will be able to create a full feature production video that includes all the ceremony and speeches footage. If a small amount of audio is something you would like though, just let me know and we may be able to create a bespoke product for you!

  • The best option for you is the one that matches your priorities. If you want a full production video along with audio from the day then I absolutely recommend you hire a separate videography team that can dedicate themselves to this task alongside your photographer. However if you are just looking for a shorter ‘highlights’ film of your day as a lovely memento then hybrid coverage would work perfectly for you. It’s the perfect compromise if you want some video, but also want to keep costs down. It’s also important to remember that hiring separate photo and video teams will mean more suppliers at the wedding, so if you aren’t comfortable being surrounded by a lot of people all day then this is something you will need to consider! There’s no right or wrong option, it’s just what works best for you and your wedding!

  • Yes and no…let me explain! Using popular songs and commercial music comes with copyright issues. I pay a licence for music for my videos, but licences for popular chart songs (like your first dance for instance) won’t be possible as these often cost 1000’s of pounds to licence. Therefore I always edit the videos to music that come with my licence. If the music choice is important to you, I can create a list of songs for you to choose from though so you absolutely can choose! If you want to put your own music over it, such as your first dance song, this is possible on some social media channels. For example, if you share your video on Instagram, you can mute the current music and choose trending music available on Instagram to put over the top!
